Mr. Mobility

We spent two fabulous weeks on the east coast -- Bobby got to play with ALL 8 COUSINS! At once! In New Hampshire, he had an inflatable baby pool right on the dock, so he could splash and play while his older cousins swam in the lake. Unfortunately we never managed to get Baby Bobby and Baby Etta in the Baby Pool at the same time. However, Etta and Bobby played together quite happily in the house. They would sit opposite each other. One would pick up a toy. The other would reach over and take it. A minute later, the first would reach over and take it back. Neither of them got upset -- apparently, by mutual consent, that was the game they were playing.

While we were in NH he also figured out crawling, after a fashion. He's using a one knee, one foot approach -- it's not exactly graceful, but it gets him where he wants to go. He's much more excited about his ability to pull himself up to a standing position. He's moved beyond using people -- now he'll pull himself up on just about anything. All he needs is a flat, stable, vertical surface to press against - a horizontal ledge is a bonus, but apparently no longer required. In a Spiderman-esque move, he's able to scale the glass windows on our entertainment center doors. The reward is access to the CDs that aren't behind glass -- a bunch are stacked up next to the VCR and he pulls those down to the floor several times a day. Unlike some of his actual toys, this activity never bores him.

The dogs are also a renewed source of interest. Bobby crawls over to the baby gate separating the living room (where he is) from the dining room (where the dogs often are). Then he pulls himself up and stands at the gate, waiting for them to pay homage. Which they do by licking him. He then grabs whatever fur is closest, and the victim responds by licking him. A lot of licking goes on, which will come as no surprise to anyone who's met our dogs.
